At Palma de Mallorca on Mallorca, Ibiza on Ibiza and Mahon on Minorca. Access is also possible from the Spanish mainland via ferry from Barcelona, Denia and Valencia.

    Derived from the Dutch term “jagen”, meaning to hunt or chase, the word Yacht usually refers to a small, fast craft which is excellent for small voyages and short crossings. Originally this meant a fully rigged vessel that was smaller than a pinnace but large enough to be fully decked over.

    Defined as such back in 1742, what classified as a Yacht had changed from the years preceding this and would change in the centuries following it. Today, as the capabilities of Yachts increase, everything from a luxury motorised cruise liner to a private family boat is labelled as one, with all the material prestige that comes with it. But however you define this type of vessel today, it has a rich history that should be known by every person who calls themselves a sailor.

    The Saronic Gulf lies to the south of Athens, the capital of Greece. As a practical sailing area it includes the Athens or Attica coast on the mainland, the eastern coast of the Peloponnisos including the Gulfs of Idhras and Argolikos. Some of the better known Islands include Aigina, Poros, Idhra or Hydra and Spetsai.

The mainland coast consists of Istria, the Croatian Riviera and Dalmatia and in addition there are an incredible 1,187 islands of which only 67 are inhabited. The length of coastline including the islands is 5,835 km. The islands account for over 4,000 km of coastline, Krk and Cres are the two largest.
