Victoria And Albert Museum – London’s Art And Design Pride

London is an ideal destination for arts and design. There are several art museums in London but one that stands out is the Victoria and Albert Museum. This is considered as the greatest museum of decorative arts and design. The museum houses exhibits and displays of artefacts from different cultures. There will always be something to interest the varying needs of visitors.

The Victoria and Albert Museum is often referred to by locals as simply V&A. visitors to this museum will be awed at the numerous collections of over 4.5 million objects from the ancient times to present. It was started in 1852 and was then the South Kensington Museum.

Victoria And Albert Museum Collections

The V&A museum houses a large number of collections covering Architecture, Asian arts, British Galleries, Cast Courts, Ceramics, Contemporary, Fashion and Jewellery, Furniture and Furnishings, Glass, Metalwork, Paintings and Drawings, Periods and Styles, Photography, Prints and Books, Sculpture, Textiles and Theatre Museum.

With this wide variety of collections, surely there are lots of objects to look out for in the Victoria and Albert Museum. There are drawings, paintings, sculptures, images, pictures, metal works, crafts, books, and other artefacts that depict the different era and cultures. It is on the museum that you can also get to compare the fashion of the oldies and the present.

Kids will also love the childhood collections. There is a large collection of doll houses, dolls, toys, teddy bears, children costumes, and games. This collection draws understanding of childhood experiences of different eras, culture and even social status.

Visiting The V&A Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum is strategically located at South Kensington, Cromwell Road, London. It can be reached via the South Kensington Tube or by road from South Kensington Underground. It is accessible from most London hostels. There are public transports that can take you from your London hostels to the V&A Museum.

This museum is generally open daily from 10.00 to 17.45 and closes late on Fridays at 22.00. The admission is free. So there is basically nothing to worry about. There are also free guided tours to help visitors get through the many collections. The guided tours cover the Introductory Tour and the British Galleries tour.
