Computer Training Schools

Computer literacy is the basic ability to use a computer for simple tasks such as typing letters using word processing software, sending an e-mail or surfing the World Wide Web.

Computer training schools and computer training centers are one of the largest means to share and teach computer literacy. Computer literacy has grown by leaps and bounds since the takeoff of the personal computer in the early 1990’s.

Before the personal computer, most computer training took place in a college setting. However since the acceptance of the PC, computer training schools have only taken off.
Before the early 1990’s, extensive computer training could only be found at colleges and universities and computer training centers or computer training schools really did not exist in large numbers.

Today computer training is a part of most educational curriculum all the way down to the elementary school level. Computer training schools and centers have appeared all over the world in most large urban areas.

However, computer training is still inadequate in some public school systems. This level of inadequacy has helped in the expansion of even more computer training schools to feed the demand for more knowledge. It also feeds the demand of an older workforce that did not grow up computer literate and caters to the high demand from students who have been out of school for some time.

Computer training schools, although flexible and very focused on subject matter, are not always the best option. Computer training schools can come with sometimes very large tuition fees. They are also very short in length and sometimes try to push too much information at the student in this short period of time and the students are sometimes not able to grasp the fundamental concepts.

Accreditation and reputation is another issue to look for. Ensure that the Computer training schools are reputable and employers as well as colleges will accept work completed at the school. Computer training centers are however not always for profit institutions and require increased tuition rates to keep the school open.

With a certain degree of basic “know how” of what a computer is and watching others use it, a student can receive a better knowledge base of these computer training courses. Typically for everyday use in the home, this is all that is required.

At the other end of the basic computer literacy spectrum is computer programming, web page and graphics design which can also be found at computer training schools and centers. These courses are designed for more advanced computer literate people planning to acquire specialized skills and also for those looking for specific careers which require specialized computer skills.
